The Pedro Club was established in 1929 by Baroness Harwood and was revived in the 1960’s with the support of Dame Elizabeth Taylor, who served as a patron up until her death in March 2011 Today the Pedro Club remains as one of the oldest functioning youth clubs within London. James Cook a local resident, a former British Super-Middleweight Champion, was alerted to the plight of the Pedro Club and set about organising a rescue programme, he formed a new management committee, and due to their arduous efforts the club reopened in 2003. In June 2007 James Cook was awarded an MBE within the Queen’s Honours List for Services to the Youth Justice in Hackney. Websiteinfo@pedroclub.com@pedroclub0208 985 3800Location

The Boxing Academy offers an education pathway for students between the ages of fourteen and sixteen who need an alternative to mainstream. Originally based in Tottenham, we were registered as a charity in 2007 and we are now located in the London Borough of Hackney. The Academy follows a full-time school schedule from 8.30am to 3:15pm, and school term times throughout the year. Our unique model offers intense mentoring and support for young people, placing them in a class of eight students with a dedicated boxer who acts as mentor, teacher support and coach throughout their stay with us. They develop a strong relationship that provides a foundation from which the student can embark upon a positive cycle of achievement. We use the beneficial effects of sport to empower our students, teach them to manage their anger, give them confidence in their learning and direct them towards further education, training or employment Websitemail@theboxingacademy.co.uk0208 9853800@Boxing_AcademyLocation
