Liquid Heat opened in RAW SPACE, Harlem as part of the Harlem Havana Festival – that celebrates the cultural links between Harlem and Havana.
I really wanted Liquid Heat to root in the Harlem community and chose a space to exhibit in that would both reflect and facilitate this We’d transformed RAW SPACE into a trendy art gallery, opening up the windows onto the street, so the dynamic sweep of colour in the images that ran around the walls could be seen from the street.
We really want to create strong links and roots in the community and bring an embodied sense of the Cuban culture. With live Cuban music the opening night was a party for the Harlem community and had everyone dancing.
